Bifröst Foundation
The app you always install. Foundation lets AI assistants and other systems do real work in Business Central: answer from live data, carry out tasks and run routines, as you and within your permissions. It does not replace Business Central or the extensions you have; it makes their data and business logic available to the AI you already use.
Foundation is also the base of the whole Bifröst family. The setup page and setup wizard, the secret store, the permissions, licensing, the message log and the help described on this site work the same way for every Bifröst app. Other Bifröst apps depend on Foundation and add operations of their own.
Capabilities
Foundation brings the standard Business Central capabilities, grouped by domain:
| Domain | Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Sales | Quotes, orders, invoices and credit memos, from the first line to posting and sending |
| Purchase | Purchase quotes, orders and invoices, from the first line to posting |
| Customer | Credit, sales history, statements and applying payments |
| Vendor | Applying payments to vendor entries |
| Item | Availability, inventory and prices |
| Finance | Journals, bank reconciliation, exchange rates and financial reports |
| Inventory | Item journals |
| Projects | Project journals, and invoicing from a project |
| Resources | Resource journals |
| Document | Approvals of documents |
| Incoming | Incoming documents and their attachments |
| Data | Reading most of your data, and changing it through a guarded path |
| CSV and Deleted | Data exports, and what was deleted, for systems that keep a copy |
| ChangeLog | Who changed what, and restoring earlier values |
| Field | Translations |
| Memory | What assistants remember between conversations |
| User | Notifications between users |
| E-mail drafts | |
| Webhook | Webhooks from other systems |
| Help | Finding out what is installed and what each part does |
| Bifrost | License status and usage |
Where it stops. Foundation can read most of your data, but it carries out only the tasks it was built for. Other Bifröst apps add domains of their own; see What it covers.
Get it and set it up
Install Bifrost Foundation from AppSource or through your Business Central partner. It needs Business Central 28.0 or later, Essentials or Premium. Then follow Set it up: five steps, each saying who is needed.
Good to know
- Preparing journals: follow Prepare and revise journals before posting general, item or project journals.
- Its pages in Business Central (Bifrost Setup, Bifrost Messages, Field Access and the others) each have their own help page.
- The rest is the same for every Bifröst app: how it works, using it, running it and its permissions are in the How it works; licensing in Licensing and Price.
